2019 Permit Activity Higher Than 2018 (February 2019)

With 1,184 residential units permitted in the first two months of 2019, the metro area activity has increased compared to 2018. The first two months of 2018 saw 876 units permitted, which is 26 percent lower than the current year.

North Kansas City, Mo., recorded the highest number of permits during the first two months of 2019 with 240. Lee’s Summit, Grandview and Spring Hill were also top permitting cities with 175, 160 and 108 permits, respectively.

For the month of February, residential building permits were down slightly compared to January 2019. In February, 541 permits were issued compared to 643 in January. The decrease in February is primarily attributable to fewer permits being pulled for multi-family units. Single-family permits held steady in February with 234 compared to 236 in January.

With 403 entries on the Spring Parade of Homes, HBA members are preparing for a busy spring and summer selling season. The Spring Parade begins on April 27 and runs through May 12.
