Kansas Capitol Legislative Chamber

At the Board of Directors meeting on March 20 the HBA renewed its affiliation with the Kansas Building Industry Alliance which includes HBAs from throughout the state of Kansas.  This new lobbying partnership will help bolster the voice of the housing industry in Topeka at the Kansas state capitol; a voice that is needed now more than ever with the threat of the mortgage interest deduction being eliminated or reduced from Kansas homeowners and aspiring new homeowners.

The legislative conference committee on tax policy is meeting today and may continue in the coming days.  Final legislative decisions are expected to be made this week or sometime after the veto session that begins April 25.  Mortgage interest deduction historically is the cornerstone of homeownership and is vital to the housing industry’s continued recovery.  This position was reaffirmed by the HBA Board of Directors at their meeting this month and was a key factor in their decision to stand united with the Kansas Building Industry Alliance on this important issue. KBIA is represented by Sean Miller and the Topeka based lobbying firm Capitol Strategies, Inc.
