HBA Meeting with Congressman Sam Graves

Members of KCHBA sat down with Congressman Sam Graves at a meeting on Tuesday, October 13, to discuss the regulatory overreach of WOTUS and a variety of labor issues.  Representing the home building industry at the meeting was George Schluter, Brenner Holland, Gary Kerns, Sara Corless, Michael Lee, and Katie Walkley.  The Congressman and his staff expressed interest in learning how recent Department of Labor rules, such as the new confined spaces standard and the ruling on joint employers, would affect local builders and the economy as a whole.  Also discussed was the recent, albeit temporary, victory for the industry when the Sixth District for the U.S. Court of Appeals issued a nationwide stay on WOTUS. The EPA’s new interpretation of the Clean Water Act would drastically expand its jurisdiction and  would impact building and development as more waters become federally protected.  Congressman Graves is a proven supporter of the home building industry and will continue to fight against these instances of federal overreach.
