Legislative agenda 1 300x250 Government Affairs Establishes Legislative Agendas

Steven Cowen, Staff Vice President for Government Affairs, and Mike Brown, Government Affairs Committee Chair

approved their 2012 legislative agendas.  The Government Affairs Committee is comprised of 17 members and chaired by Mike Brown, Brown Midwest.  Charged with recommending policy positions and addressing government affairs issues facing the home building industry, the committee meets monthly during the legislative session.

“As the home building industry awakes from the slumber in the housing market, we need our government officials to know exactly where we stand on important issues,” said Brown.  “If you aren’t at the table, you’re on the menu, and this committee will definitely be at the table on the issues impacting our livelihood.”

Kansas legislators will have a busy session when they face redistricting, changes to the school finance formula, and revisions to the tax code. Missouri lawmakers will review policy changes in the aftermath of the Joplin tornado last May, workers compensation reforms, and building codes.  HBA members are invited to attend the Missouri Legislative Day in Jefferson City on Tuesday, March 6.  Information and registration are available on the HBA website.

Committee members include Travis Graham, Kevin Stucker, George Schluter, Mike Brown, Jim Pollard, Fred Delibero, Jim Lambie, Richard Mather, Bob Frost, Brennar Holland, Gary Kerns, Brandy White, Kevin Kirtley, Jim Haas, Tommy Anotti and Jim Humbert.
