New Safety Resources for OSHA’s Stand-Down to Prevent Falls

OSHA’s annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction begins Monday, Sept. 14. NAHB has launched a new video toolbox talk focused on roofing safety to coincide with the awareness campaign.

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 320 of the 1,008 construction fatalities recorded in 2018. Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country and gives builders and contractors a time to deliberately stop work to discuss fall prevention.

The fall prevention stand-down begins with a free webinar on Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. The webinar will feature leaders from OSHA, NIOSH and the Center for Construction Research and Training. Register here.

Be sure to check OSHA’s official site and the NAHB stand-down page for resources for conducting your own talks and training on fall prevention.

In addition to resources specific to holding a stand-down, NAHB recently published a video toolbox talk on roofing safety, one of the most fall-prone tasks in home building. Watch the video below on roofing safety and visit here for written resources in English and Spanish.

Also be sure to check out the NAHB Fall Protection video toolbox talk for additional resources and tips on work at height.

If you do hold a stand-down on your job site, consider snapping a picture or two and posting them to social media using the tags #StandDown4Safety and #StopFalls.
