Preparing for the 2016 Missouri Legislative Session

KCHBA recently met with other members of the Home Builders Association of Missouri (HBAM), to discuss the industry’s legislative agenda for 2016.  State Lobbyist Jewel Patek has identified several important issues that are likely to arise this session, including a push for state-wide licensing of roofing and siding contractors, potential changes to workers compensation laws, and the desire of some to remove the sunset clause on the optionality of residential fire sprinklers.  Missouri developers have also recently encountered issues regarding extremely costly impact and access fees charged by MODOT that negatively affect development, an issue sure to generate discussion at budget hearings this year.  Finally, the HBAs feel it is important to monitor Governor Nixon’s costly Comprehensive Energy Plan, however, it does not appear the General Assembly has much appetite for implementing the Governor’s broad proposal.
