June 2026 Residential Statistics Report
The Kansas City region’s housing market continues to gain momentum, with single-family building permits climbing 28 percent through the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City’s (KCHBA) monthly Residential Building Permit Statistics report.
Builders pulled permits for 2,836 single-family homes across the eight-county metropolitan area through June, putting 2026 on pace to become one of the region’s strongest years for new home construction in recent history.
June capped off the strong start to the year with 455 single-family permits issued regionwide, continuing a trend of steady demand for new housing throughout the metro.
At the local level, Kansas City, Mo., led all cities in June with 69 single-family permits. Meanwhile, Johnson County, Kansas, remained the region’s most active county, issuing 198 permits in June alone and 1,167 single-family permits year-to-date, more than any other county in the metro area.
The report points to broad-based growth across the region, with communities in Johnson, Clay, Jackson, Platte, Cass, Leavenworth, Miami and Wyandotte counties all contributing to the increase in homebuilding activity as builders work to meet ongoing demand for new housing.
