Single-Family Permits Continue Strong Start in February

February 2026 Residential Statistics Report

With 794 residential units permitted in the first two months of 2026, the metro area activity has increased by 34 percent compared to the first two months of 2025, according to statistics compiled by the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (KCHBA).

Kansas City, Mo., recorded the highest number of permits during the first two months of 2026 with 153. Spring Hill, Olathe and Overland Park were also top permitting cities with 85, 79 and 72 single-family permits, respectively.

Residential building permits in Kansas City, Mo., rose 24 percent in February, with 440 permits issued compared to 354 in January. This growth is partially attributed to a reporting update by the KCHBA to align Kansas City, Mo., with regional tracking methods. The total now includes townhouse permits (four units or fewer), which were previously excluded due to CompassKC reporting practices. Users should account for this procedural shift when analyzing historical trends.

With 317 entries on the Spring Parade of Homes, KCHBA members are preparing for a busy spring and summer selling season. The Spring Parade begins on April 25 and runs through May 10.
