May 2026 Residential Statistics Report
Metro-wide single-family permits totaled 509 during May—leading to a five-month total of 2,358 units, according to statistics compiled by the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (KCHBA). This year-to-date total is an increase of 32 percent over the same period in 2025.
In single-family activity, Kansas City, Mo., topped the “most active city” list with 67 permits issued, followed by Olathe with 66, Basehor at 55, Overland Park with 40, and Kansas City, Kan., with 33 permits.
