“Recent Census Bureau data indicates that millennials are increasingly entering the housing market as first-time buyers,” said Josh Clark, executive vice president of the HBA.  “This helps fuel the entire housing market – both existing and new homes are selling quickly in the Kansas City area.”

Permits issued in Johnson County have accounted for 33% of the total during the first five months of this year.  The Missouri counties of Clay, Jackson, Platte and Cass issued 58% of the total.

Kansas City, Mo., recorded the highest number of permits so far in 2018, with 381 in its three county reach.  Olathe has the second highest number of permits issued with 250 units.  Blue Springs (233 permits), Lee’s Summit (173 permits), and Overland Park (164 permits) round out the top five cities with the most permits issued in the first quarter.
