Permit Activity Picks Ups During January 2019

Building activity appears to be increasing in the KC metro with 643 residential building permits issued in January 2019. January’s number is up 120 percent from December 2018 (292 permits) and up 55 from January 2018 (416 permits), according to the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City’s (HBA) monthly Residential Building Permit Statistics report. Most of this growth was in multi-family permits; 407 multi-family permits were issued in January while 236 single-family unit permits were issued.

Jackson County had the highest number of building permits pulled with 345 in January. Within Jackson County, the cities with the largest number of permits issued were Grandview (160) and Lee’s Summit (155).

Other top permitting cities include:

  • Spring Hill, Kan., with 108 permits issued
  • Overland Park, Kan., with 41 permits issued
  • Kansas City, Mo., with 25 permits issued
