OSHA Announces New Reporting Requirements
On Thursday, September 11, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced a final rule that requires employers to notify the agency within 8 hours of a work-related fatality and within 24 hours of an in-patient hospitalization, amputation, or loss of an eye. The rule goes into effect on January 1, 2015 and applies to all employers. Previously, OHSA’s regulations required an employer to report only work-related fatalities and in-patient hospitalizations of three or more employees. OSHA is developing a website for employers to report incidents electronically in addition to the phone reporting options.
