Platte County Leadership Backs “Let Builders Build”

KSHB recently interviewed Platte County Commissioner Scott Fricker, KCMO City Councilman Nathan Willett and KCHBA Executive Vice President about Platte County’s endorsement of the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City’s “Let Builders Build” campaign, which pushes for regulatory relief in the construction industry.

“The reason we have unaffordable housing is because we don’t have enough inventory, we don’t have enough stock,” Scott Fricker, Platte County presiding commissioner, said to KSHB Reporter Grant Stephens.

But Fricker noted that it’s not available land that is the problem, it’s the regulatory environment that pushes costs higher.

“You could go build your house in Liberty, or you could build in Kansas City and still be within the same school district. Well, you’re going to choose Liberty because it costs less to build,” Willett told Stephens.
