“Let Builders Build” Campaign Shifts Gears as Industry and Residents Press Jurisdictions for Action in the Kansas City Region

After months of elevating awareness around the growing challenges of housing accessibility, the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (KCHBA) and its Let Builders Build campaign turns its focus towards action.

Building on the campaign’s widespread support from both residents and industry professionals, Let Builders Build is now encouraging greater involvement from local jurisdictions to help remove barriers, modernize policies and help alleviate the challenges facing the region.

Upon its launch in August, the campaign spotlighted how rising housing costs, regulatory burdens and outdated zoning stand between young families and homeownership. Since then, KCHBA has developed a deeper partnership with residents, builders and community leaders. Today, the campaign’s focus shifts toward a more defined call to action – encouraging residents to call on their local leaders to help alleviate the region’s growing housing problem.

“Awareness alone is not enough,” said Will Ruder, Executive Vice President of KCHBA. “We need jurisdictions in the Kansas City region to move away from rhetoric and towards real reform. Builders are ready. Families are ready. It’s time for our community leaders to act.”

As homebuyers continue to see the cost of housing rise, Let Builders Build is calling on decision-makers across the Kansas City area to make housing policy a priority by:

  • Reviewing and reducing permitting timelines and fees
  • Aligning code standards, including building and zoning codes with local economic, demographic and environmental realities
  • Encouraging growth-friendly and cost-efficient housing options that benefit young working families
  • Fostering partnerships between builders and residents to achieve innovative solutions for each unique community

“We can slow the rise of housing costs by building more housing,” said Will Ruder, Executive Vice President of KCHBA. “Together, the Kansas City region can build more homes, faster and at a lower cost to residents – giving more families the chance to own the roofs over their heads.”  Residents, builders, community groups and local officials are invited to learn more at letbuildersbuildkc.com.
