The Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (KCHBA) has been recognized with two Association Excellence Awards from the Executive Officers Council of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The association was recognized for its outstanding public relations campaign, Let Builders Build, launched last fall and its website redesign, which also debuted in fall 2025.
“Receiving these two Association Excellence Awards is a tremendous honor and a reflection of our commitment to serving both our members and the broader Kansas City community,” said Will Ruder, Executive Vice President of the KCHBA. “Through Let Builders Build and our website redesign, we’ve focused on creating meaningful connections, educating the public about housing challenges and championing solutions that help more families achieve homeownership. We’re proud to be recognized by our peers at NAHB for these efforts.”
Best Website
For years, kchba.org functioned primarily as a members-only resource — essentially limiting communication to those already within the association. The goal of the redesign was to transform the site into a public-facing platform that would strengthen the association’s educational outreach while also creating a more interactive experience that would encourage visitors to stay longer and engage more deeply with the content.
In the six months following the redesign, user engagement increased significantly, with visitors spending an average of 1 minute and 11 seconds on kchba.org pages—up from 57 seconds on the previous site.
Best Public Relations Program Conducted
Let Builders Build is a campaign to unlock housing opportunities in Kansas City. Research shows that KC is at a tipping point: families can’t find homes they can afford while builders can’t break through the red tape and overburdening rules that local governments are pushing out in inconsistent and unpredictable manners.
The campaign’s launch successfully elevated builders as trusted messengers, clarified the connection between regulation and rising home prices, and helped shift the conversation from abstract policy debates to real impacts on families and the real solutions needed.
Across all channels, the campaign significantly increased public understanding of how local policy decisions impact housing affordability.
The Association Excellence Awards are an annual program designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of state and local home builders’ associations and executive officers in the field of association management. EOC membership is comprised of the staff executives who direct more than 650 NAHB-affiliated state and local home builders’ associations representing more than 140,000 home builders in communities across the United States.
“The AEA Awards highlight the very best work being done by state and local home builders’ associations to serve their members, improve the housing industry and strengthen their communities,” said Greg Lane, EOC president and executive vice president of the Building Industry Association of Washington. “This year’s winners were each very well deserved and represent our entire association through their creativity, innovation and integrity.”
