Kansas Law Will Help with Building Entry-Level Homes; But No Magic Bullet

Kansas bill SB 418 fast-tracks approvals, allows smaller lots and cuts red tape for homes under 2,500 square feet, all of which will assist homebuilders with building entry-level homes.

“The idea is to make it easier to build new homes by speeding up the process and cutting down some regulations, specifically on homes with a smaller footprint that could be considered “starter homes,” KCHBA Executive Vice President Will Ruder told the Johnson County Post.

Ruder said SB 418 probably won’t be enough to solve the housing supply crisis in one fell swoop. He said he sees it as “great progress” but not “a magic bullet.”
