KMBC Talks KCMO Energy Codes with Builder, City Councilman
Dennis Shriver, Hearthside Homes, and KCMO Councilman Wes Rogers recently spoke with KMBC‘s Andy Alcott about the dearth of housing permits in KCMO since the 2021 IECC went into effect last September. In its story, “Kansas City, Missouri permit change impacts new builds in city limits,” Alcott notes that the home he’s standing in is located in Liberty instead of KCMO because, as Shriver says, “it would’ve been much more challenging and expensive to build the same home in Kansas City due to a tangled web of red tape in the permitting process.”
“You’ve got to take into account the additional costs that it takes to build and Kansas City versus other cities,” Shriver told Alcott.
“It just adds to an already difficult climate to build new housing,” said Kansas City Councilman Wes Rogers.
