Building Planning, Chapter 3 of the International Residential Code (IRC), sets up a compilation of code requirements that are specific to the building planning sector of the design and construction process. The provisions address a wide variety of issues important to designing a building that is both safe and usable. This chapter contains essential, broad workable knowledge regarding the construction of single and two-family dwelling units and townhomes. This course is applicable to all aspects of the design, construction and regulatory community – including contractors and design professionals.

This seminar is designed to provide an in-depth look at the Residential Energy requirements in Chapter 11 of the International Residential Code (IRC) and Chapter 4 of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) with practical application. A checklist will be discussed for plan review and for field inspection verifications. Discussion will cover many topics such as: the thermal envelope, failures in envelope, climate zone requirements, air barriers, vapor barriers and total UA path and performance path and how they impact our homes.

Moisture Intrusion (8 CEU)

This course will discuss the building science behind moisture intrusion in the residential environment in relation to building code requirements. Concepts include sustainability, net zero energy and durability design criteria in terms of providing fundamental information on the 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) exterior weather barrier provisions. Participants will learn through a detailed examination of the exterior wall envelope weather-barrier components, roof assembly components, and foundation elements how to avoid moisture intrusion problems and how to conform to the requirements of the 2012 IRC. This class will be of interest to designers, general and sub-contractors, building inspectors, plans examiners, architects or engineers and/or anyone working in the one-and two-family dwelling environment.
