2020 Single-Family Permits Exceed 2019 Total (November 2020)

In November 2020, 397 single family permits were pulled across the Kansas City regional area, according to statistics compiled by the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (KCHBA). While this is a 22% decrease from the 509 single-family permits issued in October 2020, it increases the total number of permits pulled in 2020 to 4,894. This is already more than the total number of single-family permits issued in 2019 (4,220) with one month remaining in the year.

In November, the top single-family permitting cities were Olathe, Kan., (60); Kansas City, Mo., (50); Overland Park, Kan., (41); Blue Springs, Mo., (34); and Lee’s Summit, Mo., (23).

Year-to-date, Kansas City, Mo., has issued the most single-family permits (1,309) followed by Olathe, Kan. (952); Lee’s Summit, Mo., (679); Lenexa, Kan. (605); and Raymore, Mo., (502).

Multi-family permits are down 21% in 2020 with 2,184 permits issued, compared to 2,781 multi-family permits issued in 2019 for the same time.
