Housing Activity Continues to Gain
Momentum
Single-family
residential permit activity continued
to show signs of a steady recovery
during the month of July in comparison
to figures recorded during 2000.
The number of single-family permits
issued during July totaled 694.
By comparison, 590 single-family
permits were issued during July
2000.

Year-to-date,
a total of 4,952 single-family permits
have been issued. By comparison, 5,361
single-family permits were issued during
the first seven months of 2000.
"The local activity
in single-family permits mirrors the recovering
permit activity taking place throughout
the country," said Tim Underwood,
executive vice president of the Home Builders
Association of Greater Kansas City. "Right
now, housing is one of the bright spots
in the economy. Nationwide as well as
in the metro Kansas City area, housing
activity remains as one of the few sustaining
segments of the economy."
Olathe remains the top-permitting
city through July with 810 single-family
permits issued. Ranking second in the
number of single-family permits issued
for the year-to-date is Kansas City, Mo.,
with 640. Overland Park and Lee's Summit
are the third and fourth top-permitting
cities with 497 and 463 single-family
permits issued respectively.
Rounding out the top-permitting
cities for the year-to-date are Shawnee,
298; Blue Springs, 203; Lenexa, 187; Independence,
154; Raymore, 154; Platte County, 128;
and Liberty, 109.
